Seafarers qualified in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats are required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence specified for that certificate of proficiency.
Seafarers that have seagoing service in the previous five years will normally be able to satisfy some of the requirements for updating and the remaining requirements are satisfied by completing the short route update training course.
Seafarers who have no onboard training or experience for maintaining the required standard within the previous five years shall complete the long route update training course, or the entire course leading to a certificate of proficiency, determined upon application to the course provider.
On successful completion of the short or long route update training course the training provider will issue a Certificate of Updated Training to you.
A certificate of update training is evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks duties and responsibilities listed in Column 1 of the relevant table in the STCW Code.
